South Surrey: An Educational Epicentre
Choosing the right school for your child is as important as finding the right single family home. In both cases, you’re looking for the perfect fit and a place you can hunker down for a couple of years. For those living in South Surrey with school-aged children – good news! The South Surrey-White Rock school district has been rapidly expanding to accommodate the many families moving to the area with several new schools and expansions underway. Let’s explore some of the schools located near our Edgewood Estates and Edgestone communities.
First off is Southridge School, a co-ed Kindergarten to Grade 12 private school located a quick 6 minute drive away. Known for being one of the highest ranked schools in all of BC by the Fraser Institute, Southridge attracts students from across the Lower Mainland including Richmond and Ladner. Southridge offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program and Middle Years Program, and Advanced Placement (College Board) courses for seniors.
Located just a 5 minute walk from our two Foxridge South Surrey communities is the new Edgewood Elementary School which opened its doors just last month on January 11, 2021. This new K-7 South Surrey school is adjacent to the future Edgewood Park and adds over 650 seats and 27 much-needed classrooms to the neighbourhood. Let’s not forget about the new multi-sports areas including grass soccer field, all weather field, basketball court and dual play areas.
Bonjour! Oui, oui! That’s the extent of our French. However, if you’re looking to raise children who are a tad (or a lot) more fluent, Earl Marriott Secondary school is just the place. It is one of four French Immersion high schools in Surrey that offers full course loads in both French and English. In addition to their French Immersion program, Earl Marriott also offers the option for students to participate in four co-op experiences in science, humanities, mechanical and trades.
Last but not least is the new state-of-the-art Grandview Heights Secondary School currently under construction next to the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre. When it opens in September 2021, this new three-storey 1,500 student capacity South Surrey secondary will be home to 60 classrooms, theatre, two gymnasiums, learning studios, dance studio and more.
Wherever you child ends up, they’ll be sure to make the grade in South Surrey!
